Gold is the premium currency.
Getting Gold[]
There are several ways to get gold:
Road[]
It depends on the number of roads. You can earn up to 12 gold a day.
Treasure Chests[]
At the end of the battle, if the enemy keep is destroyed, you will get a treasure chest that may contain some gold.
Objectives[]
By completing objectives, you can earn gold.
Buying[]
Gold can be bought using real-world currency which also serves to support the freemium business model of the game.
Catching Spies[]
Around two to three spies a day will appear in your castle, which you can tap on to catch and gain 4 to 6 gold per spy caught. Spies will appear as single troops walking around (not in pairs).
Spending Gold[]
Speeding up the build, training or hero's recovery times[]
